課程概述

「英文寫作基礎」旨在幫助學生熟悉學術寫作基本架構。內容著重於文章的結構組織,並使用本中心研究團隊,針對台灣研究生所設計的學術文法與學術字彙教材,培養學生文法語用功能應用與使用專業學術用字及其搭配詞的能力,希望藉由文本分析及寫作練習,為學生奠下扎實的學術寫作基礎。 This course aims to familiarize graduate students with fundamental skills concerning academic English writing. This course generally includes two hours of lecture plus one hour of grammar discussion. Topics to be covered include common rhetorical patterns, paragraph/essay development, grammar functionality, and essential vocabulary in academic English. This course is conducted in Mandarin as well as English, with the course material in English. 

課程目標
本課程培育學生四大能力:了解英文寫作常見文體、運用文法功能於學術寫作、熟悉學術寫作常用字彙、辨識與修訂句構問題。 By the end of the course, learners will 1. Understand common rhetoric modes in academic writing. 2. Apply their knowledge of grammar function to their own writing. 3. Demonstrate familiarity with vocabulary frequently used in academic writing. 4. Edit and proofread their own and their peers’ writing.

1. Learners are required to attend all classes. No more than three excused absences are permitted. 學生必須出席所有課程。若需請假,次數不得超過三次。
2. Active participation in class discussions is required. 學生必須積極參與課堂討論。
3. Quizzes and a comprehensive final exam are included in this course. No make-up exam will be allowed. 學生必須準備小考與期末考。期末考不得補考。
4. Writing assignments are carefully scheduled as stages toward the fulfillment of the course’s objectives. Late assignments will not be accepted. 學生必須依規定按時繳交課堂作業,不得遲交。 5. This course is not open to auditors. 課程不開放旁聽

Students develop paragraphs and an essay via pre-writing, writing and re-writing. Students edit and proofread their own and their peers’ writing.
